Unfinished Business:
1. Campground:
Port Manager Chris Phalen reported that the girls from the prison were coming on the 8th and the 15th to clean the park. The park is starting to get more people in. Also, she has received several calls for reservations. A group is coming in on the 18th-21st. This group comes every year for St. Patrick’s Day.
The campground fund has $934.00 and petty cash is $2092.03 as of 2/18/10. The $353.00 was re-deposited back in the campground fund.
2. Website:
Mr. Jarstad said everything is good on the website.
3. Fire Station:
Mr. Cooper, assistant Fire Chief, gave a report on the Fire Station. He said the plans call for a 40 x 60 building for approximately $75,000.00. There were questions about hooking into the water and sewer system. Mr. Cooper said he went up to Station 24, Scott Thompson built that station, and it has a shop in back and a bathroom, for $75,000.00. That was a pole building verses a stick building.
Mr. Cooper asked, “At this point, where do we go from here?” He added that if the Port wants him to line up the people to come out here and start looking at things, he also said he realizes that we have to go out for a bid. He asked how much work did we want the Fire Department to do, or how much the Port wants to do themselves. He would do it all if they wanted him to, he added.
A pole building was discussed verses a stick building. Chairperson Edwards said if for some reason the Fire Department didn’t want the building after we built it, we would have a nice commercial building. It would be fire rated, and that is one thing, too. A steel building is fire rated and if you wanted to lease it out to N C Marina, you could. Steel is fire proof and wouldn’t burn.
4. New Business:
The drive way was also discussed along with the culvert. Port Manager Phalen said she told the road foreman to hold on to the permit we put in for the culvert until we decided what we want to do. Chairperson Edwards said not to give the county too much for they are notorious for making you spend more money. If you want to get by with less, don’t give them more ideas than they already have. He said those guys are really good. Chairperson Edwards said he would never forget what they told him, that you could always get what you want as long as you are willing to spend the money. The building will be an asset for the Port and will benefit the Fire Department as well as the community.
Manke Lease, Port Manager Phalen said she signed the letter and mailed it to Manke, but she has not heard anything yet.
Our next meeting will be April 6, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
